Lauren is the founder and principal of Swagga Dance Academy which opened in 2012. She found her passion for dance at the age of 5 years old initially training in ballet and soon moving on to a variety of styles and completing graded examinations. Competing at a championship level and gaining numerous 1st place titles Lauren’s passion for dance grew and also her love of teaching. This led to gaining distinctions in each of her teaching qualifications. She is a teacher of Freestyle and Street Dance with the International Dance Teachers Association, a contemporary dance teacher with ID Dance and an Acrobatic Arts instructor. She continues her own training therefore expanding opportunities for her students. Lauren also found a passion for adult fitness particularly dance related and is a Zumba instructor, Zumba Kids instructor, Booiaka Instructor and Insanity instructor. Lauren continues to work professionally as a dancer, singer and actress. Lauren is also a specialist nurse in the NHS.
Gaynor began training at the age of 3 at a performing arts school in her then home town of Leeds. She progressed onto Performers Arts College after which, at the age of 17, she started her professional dance career, work included a tour of Portugal and Italy, Princess Cruise Lines and many UK touring shows. Gaynor then settled in Hawkinge, Kent and became choreographer at one of the UK’s leading entertainment hotels for 8 years. In 1993 Gaynor began teaching dance in Kent then opened her own performing arts school in Hawkinge ‘Premiere Performing Arts’. Gaynor also runs the highly successful dance competition ‘So You Want To Dance’. Gaynor has recently taken higher qualifications in IDTA ballet examinations.
Ellen began dancing at the age of 6 initially training in ballet and soon moved onto a variety of dance styles. She competed numerous times and gained many 1st place titles at championship level. Ellen is actively working towards her dance teaching qualifications. She enjoys teaching the Tots classes at Swagga Dance Academy.
Jessica started her professional training at the age of 11 after receiving a scholarship to the Legat School of Dance. Following that at the age of 16 she was awarded a full scholarship to train at The Urdang Academy where she worked with some of the countries top choreographers. Jessica is now a fully qualified teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and is studying for a degree in dance education.
Donna trained at London Studio Centre and then gained her ISTD teaching qualifications in Ballet, Tap and Modern at Stella Mann College. Donna has choreographed pantomimes at Hackney Empire and performed in various shows and music videos. She joins us after moving from from Essex where she taught for many years entering pupils for exams and choreographing 2 shows each year.
Az, a commercial and contemporary dancer, trained at the Royal Ballet School before moving onto Marlowe to train in contemporary dance. From this, Az has graduated from DMU, the centre of excellence. Through his training, he has choreographed and performed for several artists including X Factor contestants, Little Mix, Cheryl, Fleur East and many more. He has also just been selected to dance for Lisa Mafia and the Lotto Boyzz.
Ellena began dancing at the age of 4 with Ballet but soon moved onto her favourite styles which are Street dance and contemporary. She has performed in multiple shows and has competed several times over the years which has allowed her to develop her skills and love of dance. Ellena was recently hired to dance in a paid promotional video for shoes which has gained hundreds of thousands of views online. Her hobbies include singing, acting and piano. One day she would like to pursue a career in Performing Arts. She greatly enjoys assisting in the infant Ballet and toddler classes.
Eva has been dancing at Swagga since it opened and her favourite styles are street dance and lyrical. Eva assists in several of our younger classes however Acro is her favourite as she likes to help people learn different skills. Outside of dance Eva takes part in gymnastics and horse riding.
Emma has been a part of Swagga Dance Academy for many years now and her children are all current students. She is a fully licensed chaperone with KCC, holds a clear DBS and is first aid trained. She is a valued member of the team.
